1.Establishment of the Hiroshima University Global Doctoral Fellowship to Support International Doctoral Students

Hiroshima University will launch a new program, the Hiroshima University Global Doctoral Fellowship, starting in FY2026. This initiative aims to create an environment where international students entering the doctoral program can focus on their research with peace of mind. Through this program, we will offer financial support to a total of 30 international doctoral students. Our goal is to support and nurture these students so that they can contribute to Japan’s future in science, technology, and innovation, and become global leaders who will shape the future of the world.

2.Delegations from the Egyptian Ministry of Education and SPRIX Pay a Courtesy Visit to HU and Sign a Tripartite Agreement on Educational Cooperation

On October 27, 2025, a signing ceremony was held for a tripartite agreement on educational cooperation in AI and programming curricula among HU, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and SPRIX Inc.


Through this courtesy visit and the signing of the agreement, the international partnership in education and research has been further strengthened. This collaboration is expected to make a significant contribution to enhancing the quality of education in Egypt and fostering the development of the next generation of human resources.

3.Hiroshima University Professor Named Among Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2025

Hiroshima University Professor Ayyoob Sharifi of The IDEC Institute’s Center for Peaceful and Sustainable Futures (CEPEAS) has been selected as one of Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers 2025 for the second consecutive year.

4.Hiroshima University Successfully Held the 19th Homecoming Day and the 74th University Festival

On November 1, 2025, Hiroshima University held the 19th Homecoming Day and the 74th University Festival at the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, welcoming many alumni, parents, and members of the local community. (The University Festival continued on November 2.)


The Opening Ceremony at Satake Memorial Hall featured a greeting and awards presentation by President Mitsuo Ochi, followed by a special lecture by Mariko Hayashi, author and chairperson of Nihon University, who delivered a talk titled “What I Have Learned.”


Throughout the campus, a wide variety of events were held, including undergraduate and graduate school initiatives, the University Festival, the School of Education Festival, and an event hosted by the Hiroshima University Smart City Co-Creation Consortium. The campus was lively and bustling with activity all day long.


In addition, special Homecoming Day events were also held at the Kasumi Campus (November 8) and the Higashi-Senda Campus (November 13).

Heart Rhythm Disorder Traced to Bacterium Lurking in Our Gums

New research shows that the gum disease bacterium P. gingivalis can slip into the bloodstream and infiltrate the heart. There, it quietly drives scar tissue buildup-distorting the heart’s architecture, disrupting electrical signals, and raising the risk of atrial fibrillation.

Discover HU’s Excellence!

Hiroshima University Has Been Selected for The JST "EXcellence Program for Engaging Research Talent – Japan" (EXPERT-J).

Hiroshima University’s proposal, “Developing a New Peace Science Alongside Emerging Global Young Researchers,” has been selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the EXcellence Program for Engaging Research Talent – Japan (EXPERT-J) on September 30, 2025.


This program is funded by investment gains from the Japan University Fund, announced by the government to realize the “J-RISE Initiative.” It aims to strengthen Japan’s research capabilities and promote the long-term establishment of outstanding international young researchers, including Japanese, by hosting them under world-class conditions at Japan’s top-level universities, in line with the concept of Universities for International Research Excellence.


In addition to Hiroshima University, a total of 11 universities, including the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University, have also been selected for this program.

(Monday, January 19, 2026)Join Us for the HIRAKU-Global International Symposium

Hiroshima University, Yamaguchi University, Tokushima University and Ehime University formed the Consortium “World-Class Researcher Development Through Regional Collaboration” (hereafter referred to as HIRAKU-Global) with the aim of launching a program to develop innovative, influential, and impactful researchers in the global community.


The HIRAKU-Global International Symposium will feature senior HIRAKU-Global researchers and alumni whose research has begun to directly impact society, with a focus on how they have been shaped by their international collaborations. The symposium will also highlight the experiences of more established world-renowned researchers who have had a major hand in developing researchers in Japan and abroad. We hope that HIRAKU-Global becomes the gold standard for supporting developing researchers, and look forward to sharing the great things that have been happening in the Chugoku-Shikoku region with the rest of the world!
